Staphylea trifolia (Bladdernut)

Samll tree or large shrub with white bell-shaped flowers on panicles in May. The seed is a 1-1.5″ bladder-like capsule. The capsule remains on the branch a month after the leaves fall. When shaken or blown by the wind, the seeds rattle in the capsule. Does well in good garden soil with full sun to light shade. Yellow fall color.
